Talented students shine at Cairns show
FROM champion woodwork displays to self-portraits and paper mache guinea fowls, six talented Dimbulah State School students wowed judges at the recent Cairns Show school art competition.
The small school in Dimbulah proudly celebrated its students’ outstanding achievements at the 121st Cairns Show after they earnt top honours across multiple categories.
Leading the success was talented manual arts student Maheyla, who, for the second consecutive year, claimed first place in the school woodwork competition. However, she also went one step further this year and was awarded the prestigious Champion Woodwork Exhibit for her beautifully crafted coffee table.
Maheyla also received a highly commended award for her impressive graphite self-portrait, demonstrating her versatility as an artist.
Success continued across the visual arts disciplines. Amelia received a highly commended award in photography, Emily was awarded a highly commended for her expressive continuous line drawing, and Max earned third place in sculpture for his striking paper-mache guinea fowl.
Additionally, Aria received second in the NAIDOC artwork and Ashley was also awarded second for his submission into the Indigenous art category.
School principal Tuki Brown said the achievements reflected the talent within the school and was a testament to its arts curriculum.
“Through a comprehensive curriculum in manual and visual arts, students are encouraged to develop technical skills, creative thinking, problem-solving abilities, and the confidence to showcase their talents beyond the classroom,” he said.
“We take great pride in providing students with opportunities to excel in both practical and creative pursuits.
“Congratulations to Maheyla, Amelia, Emily, Max, Aria, and Ashley on their outstanding achievements and for representing Dimbulah State School with such distinction.”
