Talking about resilience
RESIDENTS, businesses and community groups across the Mareeba Shire are invited to help the future of local disaster preparedness by contributing to the shire council’s Community Resilience Plans.

The council’s disaster and resilience team is developing the plans to improve communication and support networks and identify practical actions that will help build safer and more resilient communities across the region.
Feedback will help identify local disaster risks and hazards, opportunities to improve preparedness and reduce risks, community strengths, resources and local knowledge, communication and support networks and actions that will build stronger communities.
Mareeba Mayor Angela Toppin encouraged community members to take part in the consultation activities and share their knowledge.
“Residents have a wealth of experience that is invaluable in understanding the risks our communities face and identifying practical ways to improve resilience,” she said.
“Whether you want to share your first-hand experience from a natural disaster, own a local business or simply want to contribute, we encourage you to come along and have your say.”
The team will be conducting workshops and holding pop-up consultation sessions and visiting business and communities across the shire from 6-9 October at the following locations:
Tuesday, 6 October
Kuranda Workshop – 10am-11am at Kuranda Neighbourhood Centre
Mount Molloy Business Doorknocking – 1pm-2.30pm
Julatten Business Doorknocking – 2.45pm-4.15pm
Wednesday, 7 October
Mareeba Community Pop-Up – 9am-2.30pm at The Big Hat
Mareeba Workshop – 4pm-6pm at Mareeba Library
Thursday, 8 October
Irvinebank and Watsonville Doorknocking – 10.30am-12.30pm
Mareeba Business Doorknocking – 2pm-3.30pm
Friday, 9 October
Chillagoe Business Doorknocking – 11am-12.30pm
Dimbulah Business Doorknocking – 1.30pm-3.30pm
