Tennis club gets facelift
A NEW beginning is underway for the Mareeba Tennis Club, with five courts undergoing refurbishment as part of its Stage 1 upgrades.

The tennis club has been a part of the Mareeba community for over 80 years, but the time has come for an upgrade.
A sod-turning ceremony was held to mark the beginning of the club’s new chapter and was attended by Minister for Sport and Racing Tim Mander, Member for Cook David Kempton, and Mareeba Shire Mayor Angela Toppin, as well as many other guests including sponsors and funders.
The club said its new facilities would allow them to expand their junior development programs, host regional tournaments, and offer more inclusive access for players of all ages and abilities.
“Currently, we operate 10 hardcourts that services around 205 members as well as the Mareeba community across the sports of tennis, pop tennis, and pickleball. Unfortunately, the courts are aging and are in need of an upgrade,” club president Mark Keating said.
“This sod-turning ceremony marks the beginning of a new chapter though. After years of planning, fundraising, and dreaming, we’re finally breaking ground on Stage 1 to create a facility that will serve our members for generations to come.”
The club would also like to thank its funding sources, which were the Queensland Government, Mareeba and Dimbulah Bendigo Community Bank, Tennis Queensland, and Mareeba Shire Council.
