STUDENTS at Julatten State School will relish their new space to relax after the school officially unveiled its sensory garden recently.
The garden will provide an aesthetic, interactive space where students can connect with nature through their senses – touching, smelling, listening, observing, and exploring the natural world around them – and is already becoming a special place for students to relax, discover, and learn.
“As acting principal, I am incredibly proud to see the sensory garden now completed and being enjoyed by our students,” teacher Lisa Smyth said.
“It has transformed an ordinary space into a beautiful area where the children can explore, discover, and connect with nature. I believe it will provide our students with a wonderful opportunity to learn in a different environment, while also offering a peaceful space for reflection and wellbeing.
“The garden is also a wonderful testament to the creativity, dedication and hard work of our groundsman, Jason Cubit, whose vision and craftsmanship has brought the garden to life.
“As I return to my regular role as a classroom teacher, I am delighted to welcome our new principal, Mr Cameron Love. Julatten State School is incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed to making this project possible, we look forward to watching both our garden and our students grow.”
The project was made possible through the fundraising efforts of the Julatten State School P&C and the generosity of community sponsors Mareeba Leagues Club, Bunnings Smithfield, the Leonardi Family, Vic’s Nursery, and Julatten Earth Food.
