The museum and information centre, which recently celebrated its millionth visitor, signed off on a three-year lease with Mareeba Shire Council.

Mareeba Mayor Angela Toppin said the information centre and museum were a well-known stop for visitors to the shire.

“Apart from extending the lease, council has committed to another year of funding for the museum and visitor information service,” she said.

“The centre is the perfect location to offer visitor information services and to welcome travellers as they drive into town.

“Council acknowledges the work of the volunteers and staff.

“The extension of their lease and another year of funding will ensure that the centre can continue to cater for visitors and locals well into the future.”
