Homelessness support group, Rosies, and St Vincent de Paul Society Mareeba each received a $500 cheque from the local catholic organisation to “further their work amongst the disadvantaged members of our community”, according to committee president Angela Musumeci.

“It’s why we’re here. We’re a community organisation, and you cannot, in this day and age, look around and think, ‘I’m okay, therefore I don’t have to help anybody else’, because things are tough for lots of people,” Ms Musumeci said.

“And at this time of year, it feels good to be able to say, ‘Look, it’s not much, but this is what we can give you’.”

Our Lady of the Chain exists to hold the annual feast celebrating devotion to “Our Lady” in a format that sits with the Catholic culture from which members are drawn.
