Top honours for Pormpuraaw
FAR North Queensland-based community organisation Pormpur Paanthu Aboriginal Corporation has taken out top honours at the prestigious 2025 Queensland Reconciliation Awards in Brisbane.
Pormpur Paanthu won the Premier’s Reconciliation Award and the Community Award for organising the Pormpuraaw Youth Summit, an annual event designed to strengthen cultural identity, leadership skills, and reconciliation among First Nations and non-Indigenous youth.
Based in Pormpuraaw on the west coastline of Cape York, Pormpur Paanthu is a non-government, community controlled organisation, established in 1991.
Its focus is to provide quality, evidence-based services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families in Pormpuraaw, providing child-care, homeless and temporary accommodation, preventative education, intervention, crisis and responsive care; domestic and family violence therapies; and alcohol and other drug counselling and advocacy and support for families, young people and children.
