Tough start for cricket sides
IT was a tough start to the FNQ Cricket season for Mareeba and Atherton, with both sides going down to their opposition in hot conditions on Saturday.

Mareeba batted first in their match against Norths in Cairns, making 118 runs before they were bowled out in the 38th over.
Ryan Jaszczyszyn top scored for the team with 31 runs off 44 balls, while Ben Jones (19) and Timothy O’Sullivan (17) were the next best contributors to the scoreboard.
Norths captain Coby Edmondstone was outstanding for his side, bowling out Jaszczyszyn and Mareeba captain Brendan Falvo and taking two catches before taking to the field to notch up 65 runs off just 45 balls.
Norths didn’t waste any time going for the victory, with Elliot Lord scoring 36 not out and Tomas Dimaline scoring 14 not out to surpass Mareeba’s score in the 20th over.
Atherton had a shaky start to their match against Mulgrave at their home ground, with Mulgrave bowlers Luke Bennet and Ryan McGrath creating havoc, taking seven wickets between them.
Atherton captain Tom Boorman didn’t get a chance to show his talent, getting a golden duck, as did his teammate Lachlan Hollitt. Alexander Nasser, Reece Johnston and Matthew Coleman also left the field without scoring.
Cameron Davis (25), Brandon Green (21) and Tallas Blaney (24) were the best of the batsmen in the total of 95 off 31 overs.
In reply, Mulgrave started fast, with Matthew Wilkins (35) Rhys Johnston (40) and Justin Reid (16Z) scoring the runs they needed in the 13th over.
Next week, Atherton will have the home advantage when they take on the Cyclones, while Mareeba has the bye.
