Local tourism operators gathered to receive first-hand information on upgrades and other developments in the Mareeba Shire tourism industry at a special Local Tourism Operators group meeting held in Kuranda.

The event brought together local tourism operators, traders and regional partners to hear directly from Skyrail Rainforest Cableway representatives regarding the upcoming upgrades, and to discuss how the community can proactively prepare for the months ahead.

“It was incredibly exciting to see such a significant investment upgrading a key tourism experience within the Mareeba Shire,” LTO Chair and Mareeba Shire Deputy Mayor Lenore Wyatt said.

“The introduction of new gondolas, featuring larger interiors and expanded floor-to-ceiling window space, will enhance the overall Skyrail visitor experience and help ensure Kuranda maintains its position as a world-class tourism destination.”

She said two key strategic priorities of Mareeba Shire Tourism were developing strong partnerships and supporting industry networking and capacity building.

The event was an important opportunity for the Kuranda community to come together, share plans and collaborate on opportunities during a period of change.

As the representative from

Tourism Tropical North Queensland noted on the night, “disruption offers the opportunity for innovation and new ideas to flourish”.

In addition to Skyrail, updates were also provided by Kuranda Scenic Rail, Tropic Wings, Down Under Tours and Tourism Tropical North Queensland and all confirmed they were continuing to actively market Kuranda and maintain their product offerings to the Village during the upgrade period.

Skyrail has also provided a dedicated upgrade information page where community members and visitors can stay informed (skyrail.com.au/upgrade/)
