Among the offenders caught are two people who were arrested on 23 May and are facing a total of 38 charges related to alleged stealing offences in Atherton.

It will be alleged a 39-year-old Millstream woman stole liquor from the same Atherton bottle shop on 20 occasions between March and May of this year.

She was charged with 20 counts of stealing and is due to appear in the Ravenshoe Magistrate’s Court on 31 July.

Police also charged a 49-year-old Wondecla man who was allegedly involved in the thefts on 18 of the 20 occasions. He was charged with 18 counts each of stealing and contravention of a domestic violence order (aggravated offence).

He was remanded in custody to appear in the Mareeba Magistrate’s Court on 15 June.

Young offenders are also facing multiple charges after police arrested two Mareeba teenagers on 25 May related to property offences between 24-25 May.

It will be alleged the boys broke into several businesses on Byrnes Street and Atherton Street, before stealing a Ford Falcon.

The boys, aged 16 and 17, were each charged with two counts of attempted enter premises, and one count each of enter premises, enter dwelling, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and unlicensed driving.

The 16-year-old Mareeba boy was refused police bail and appeared in the Mareeba Children’s Court on 26 May.

The 17-year-old Mareeba boy is due to appear in the Mareeba Children’s Court on 8 June.

Detective Acting Inspector Tony Law said more than 500 charges in just over three months indicated the dedication of the new property crime unit.

“This team is acting quickly to apprehend offenders and disrupt property crime to minimise harm to the community. We want everyone to feel safe and these local officers are working hard to achieve that,” he said.
