Northern Civil Earthworks Pty Ltd were awarded $1.598 million to undertake the works.

Mareeba Shire Mayor Angela Toppin said the essential works would ensure the sewerage network was managed to meet the needs of current and future residents in Mareeba, increasing capacity to support additional dwellings.

“Sewerage pump stations are vital to help move wastewater onto the treatment plant,” she said.

“There can be a wide range of issues if a pump station is over capacity, including leaks, electrical issues and wastewater coming back into houses.

“That is why we are prioritising these works to ensure that our wastewater systems are suitable to cater for current residents and for future population growth.”

Works are expected to be completed by late September 2026.

The project is funded by the Queensland Government’s $2 billion Residential Activation Fund in association with the council to unlock land for new homes.

Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Jarrod Bleijie, said the fund was set to unlock thousands of new homes across Queensland, with 97 projects announced to date, including 21 in Far North Queensland.

“The Crisafulli Government is partnering with local councils and giving more Queenslanders a place to call home by funding shovel-ready projects in Far North Queensland like Mareeba Shire Council’s vital sewerage system upgrades,” he said.
