An added incentive will be that the winning entry will receive $1000.

The prizemoney is offered thanks to the support of the Mareeba Chamber of Commerce and The Express newspaper.

“This 150th logo competition is an opportunity for people with an eye to design to develop an image that will highlight a special time in our town’s history,” The Express managing editor Carl Portella said.

“The idea of creating a home-grown logo is to feature this special milestone for our town, its citizens and its history and acknowledge those who have gone before us as well as present-day events and the people who make our town.”

Mareeba Chamber of Commerce president Joe Moro said the logo could be as simple or as ornate as the designer chose, remembering that detail may be lost when the image is used for smaller applications.

“It is anticipated that the logo will be used for a whole range purposes from books, promotion and advertising in printed or electronic form, to maybe window stickers, flags, sporting strips and a whole range of other applications pertaining to Mareeba,” he said.

The judges’ decision on the winning logo will be final, and no correspondence will be entered into. The artist must relinquish the copyright to the Mareeba 150th Anniversary Celebrations advisory committee for use at its discretion.

Entries in the logo competition must be available in digital format and emailed to admin@theexpressnewspaper.com.au no later than 5pm on Friday 15 May.
