Grace Duck-Heard was named the latest recipient of the Fresh Street IGA scholarship, an annual award given to the most dedicated graduates at Atherton State High School.

Grace has always been driven by her love of animals and this year she plans to study Veterinary Science at James Cook University.

Working towards her goal of becoming a vet since she was 13, Grace took up employment at a local veterinary clinic to save money for the day she would head off to university.

As a leader in her school’s goat and cattle team last year, she displayed leadership skills and a deep understanding of animal care.

With the support of the scholarship, Grace is ready for the next chapter of her life and plans to return to a rural area once she graduates, a pathway that will benefit the rural community.
