Village fete adds extra layer to Metrogaine event
A VILLAGE fete will be introduced to the popular Metrogaine event annually run by Mareeba Lions.

Metrogaine has been a yearly event for many years now, described as “if a scavenger hunt met the Amazing Race”.
In the event, participants are given a series of clues to track down certain checkpoints across Mareeba, and the team that solves all of the clues and visits each checkpoint the quickest, wins.
Lions member and chair of the research foundation Tom Braes said while Metrogaine was a great way for friends and family to get out of the house and have some fun, it was also vital in helping find treatment for people suffering from life-threatening illnesses.
Since its inception in 2013, it has contributed $52,000 to the Australian Lions Childhood Cancer Research Foundation, and $4,000 to the Queensland and Northern New South Wales Lions Medical Research Foundation.
Now, the club wants to expand the event, introducing a Village Fete and seeking not-for-profit organisations to become involved.
The fete and the Metrogaine adventure challenge will be hosted in Arnold Park on Saturday 1 August from 3pm-8pm.
There will be games, market stalls, food, a tug-o-war competition, monster cent sale and the presentation of the Mareeba and District Garden Awards.
