Village fete adds to Metrogaine
AFTER 13 years of challenging locals to explore Mareeba in a fun and adventurous way, the Mareeba Lions Club is taking its popular Metrogaine Adventure Challenge to the next level with the introduction of the inaugural Village Fete.
The expanded event will be held this Saturday from 3pm to 8pm at Arnold Park and promises an afternoon and evening packed with entertainment, food, family fun and community spirit.
One of the biggest attractions this year will be the Tug-of-War Competition, with the Lions Club calling on local sporting clubs, businesses, families and groups of friends to enter a team of six.
“There are no special skills required – just a sense of fun and a willingness to have a go,” Lions member Norma Moloney said.
“The Tug-of-War is all about getting people involved, having a laugh and creating great memories. We’d love to see plenty of teams register.”
Of course, the much-loved Metrogaine Adventure Challenge returns, offering participants the chance to race around Mareeba completing clues and challenges in what has become one of the district’s most unique community events.
The new Village Fete will bring together a wide range of local non-profit organisations, community groups, businesses and market stalls, creating a vibrant community hub where visitors can discover the wonderful work being undertaken throughout the Mareeba district.
Garden enthusiasts will also be eagerly awaiting the announcement of the 2026 Mareeba and District Lions Garden Awards, including the prestigious TCB Joy Paterson Champion Garden Award.
New this year is an Under 16 Category, encouraging young gardeners to showcase what they have grown. There is no need to pre-register for this category – simply bring along your favourite plant, vegetable or flower to the Village Fete by 2.30pm on the day for judging.
There will be something for everyone to enjoy.
“The Village Fete is a fantastic opportunity for the community to come together while supporting the many volunteers and non-profit organisations that do so much for our region throughout the year,” Ms Moloney said.
“Whether you’re entering the Metrogaine, cheering on the Tug-of-War teams or simply enjoying a steak burger and browsing the stalls, there will be something for everyone.”
