This is the first time the two Mareeba Shire Visitor Information Centres have come together for a joint event conference.

The conference focused on strengthening visitor servicing, sharing regional insights, and building connections across the local tourism network.

A key highlight of the day was the Queensland Tourism Industry Council’s “Queensland Welcomes You” workshop, which focused on delivering exceptional visitor experiences through storytelling, destination pride, and customer service excellence.

Attendees also heard updates from Mareeba Shire Tourism, Tourism Tropical North Queensland, and the Wet Tropics World Heritage Guides program, alongside a guest presentation from the Croydon Visitor Information Centre.

The conference highlighted the important role visitor centre teams play in shaping the visitor experience across the region.

“Visitor Information Centre volunteers are often the first point of contact for visitors to the region,” Mareeba Shire’s Local Tourism Organisation chairperson and Deputy Mayor Cr Lenore Wyatt said.

“Investing in their skills and knowledge ensures we continue to deliver warm, memorable and high-quality experiences for everyone who visits Mareeba Shire.

“The event also provided an opportunity for volunteers to connect, share experiences, and strengthen collaboration between centres.

“This event was a warm up for when we host the Queensland Visitor Information Centre Association conference in the Mareeba Shire in late October, bringing staff from visitor centres all over the state, to our shire.”
