The Mareeba Lions Young Leaders in Service are hosting two fundraising walks in support of the Amy Braes Ovarian Cancer Campaign on Sunday 16 August.

Ms Braes, who lost her mother to ovarian cancer, launched her campaign in May, with a bold goal of raising $1 million by May next year.

The annual Mt Emerald Wind Farm Sunrise Walk and Rocky Creek Igloo Walk have attracted hundreds of people in past years and organisers are expecting a good turnout again.

The Mt Emerald walk is a moderate to hard 13km hike, rewarding participants with breathtaking sunrise views across the Tablelands.

This year, there are two departure times to choose from, 4.30am and 5.15am.

A courtesy bus will transport walkers from the Walkamin Community and Sports Hall to the starting point before dawn. From there, they will walk to the summit to experience the magic of sunrise before making their way back down to meet the return bus.

The cost of $50 per person includes the courtesy bus, a bacon and egg burger and drink, and a hard hat which must be worn throughout the walk. Participants must supply and wear their own headlamp, as the walk begins in darkness.
