A hiker went missing on the Lambs Head hike at Davies Creek last week.

At around 6.30pm last Wednesday, the hiker raised the alarm using what coverage she could get on her mobile phone.

She told emergency services she was unable to descend the mountain due to the inclement weather conditions and declining daylight.

Police and State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers launched a search and rescue for the lost bushwalker, ascending the mountain and locating the woman around midnight.

To ensure avid hikers are safe throughout the entirety of their trip, police are urging them to plan ahead.

Make sure your phone is fully charged and carry a personal locator beacon and extra water in the case of an emergency.

Carrying a small first aid kit and suitable food and letting someone know where you are going are also essential to staying safe on long hikes.
