Mareeba Shire Mayor Angela Toppin said the contract, approved at this month’s council meeting, ensured water security for the town would continue to be a priority.

“Providing safe and reliable drinking water is one of the most essential services council delivers,” she said.

“Sections of Mareeba’s water infrastructure are ageing and council is taking proactive steps to reduce the risk of future water main breaks and ensure residents have water every time they turn on the tap.”

The project will include the supply and installation of a new water main along sections of Walsh St, Keneally Rd, Kennedy Highway and Mammino St.

The works are due to finish by June 2026.
