Who will take out the award?
THREE farmers from across North Queensland are the nominees for the 2026 Charlie Nastasi Farmer of the Year Award.
Named in honour of the late Charlie Nastasi, the award recognises farmers who demonstrate excellence in innovation, successfully navigate business challenges, and contribute to the industry or community by supporting and inspiring others.
This year’s nominees are avocado grower Francis Arockiasamy from Avo North at Dimbulah; banana producers Jenny and Adrian Crema from Crema Bananas in Tully, which has operated for three generations; and Stephen Pace from Pace Farming at Rollingstone which has around 200 hectares under pineapples, producing up to 5,000 tonnes each year.
FNQ Growers president Joe Moro said the geographic spread of this year’s nominees reflected the breadth and diversity of agriculture across Far North Queensland.
“This year’s nominees showcase the strength and diversity of Far North Queensland’s agricultural industry. Representing a range of commodities and growing regions, they highlight the important role farmers continue to play in our communities and economy,” he said.
The winner will be announced at the FNQ Growers Gala Dinner on Friday 4 September at the Mareeba International Club.
Industry leaders, local growers and community members will gather to celebrate achievements in agriculture and raise funds for local charities.
Previous winners of the Charlie Nastasi Farmer of the Year Award include Jason Salvetti, Lorraine Stopford, Deb Nucifora and Raymond Courtice.
