Winning logo revealed
THE logo that will be used for Mareeba’s 150th celebrations next year has been chosen.

“The hotly contested competition, launched earlier this month, drew a wide selection of designs representing a magnificent cross section of our community,” The Express managing editor and competition co-sponsor Carl Portella said.
He added that the vast array of designs and variety of entries highlighted many aspects relevant to Mareeba’s history leading up to the commemorative celebration of Mareeba, which was founded by John Atherton 150 years ago, next year.
The winning designer Yungaburra’s Nikki Ward – a highly skilled, creative graphic designer with over 25 years’ experience in the design, advertising and marketing industries.
Ms Ward has gained extensive industry experience in both Australia and the UK, having worked in a variety of agencies, from small boutique-size studios to large international firms.
“We believe it is essential that the logo be used at any event opportunity to highlight our 150th year milestone since John Atherton and his family first settled here in 1877, and to celebrate everything that has made our town the liveable powerhouse it has become over the years in the history of Far North Queensland,” Mareeba Chamber of Commerce president Joe Moro, also a co-sponsor of the competition, said.
The new logo will be launched at a public forum to be held at the Mareeba Leagues Club at 5.30pm on 22 June, with community groups and club representatives invited to hear how local groups can get involved in the celebrations throughout 2027.
Committee chairman Joe Moro said the forum will inform groups how to access the logo for use at their events, on club or organisation attire, and other applications throughout next year.
