World class harpists head to Kuranda
KURANDA will host world-class harpists at a retreat to be held in the village this Saturday.

The Inspired Harp Creative Retreat, hosted by the Far North Queensland Harp Connection, will welcome beginners through to professional harpists, as well as musicians and creative practitioners, for masterclasses, guided harp meditation, improvisation and resonance-based music exploration.
“This is about infusing the Far North harp and music community with a burst of inspirational brilliance – not simply as a performance, but through collaboration, mentoring and shared experience,” Luminara Harp Festival director Natalia Mann said.
The Kuranda event will follow concerts to be held at The Chapel in Whitfield (Cairns) this Friday, where Melbourne-based virtuoso Katia Mestrović will join Mossman/Port Douglas singing harpist Loni Fitzpatrick and Ms Mann for two intimate concerts at 1pm and 7.30pm.
“This epic concert features three completely different harpists, showcasing just how versatile and colourful the harp can be,” Ms Fitzpatrick said.
The collaboration takes place just before Ms Mestrović travels to the World Harp Congress, marking a significant artistic moment for the region.
Audiences can expect a program that moves well beyond traditional expectations of the instrument – from athletic classical brilliance to voice and electronics, to Ms Mann’s plant resonance music practice.
Each performer will present solo works, including original compositions and Australian repertoire, before joining together on three concert harps in one space.
