The popular annual Fair, which coincides with the Yungaburra markets, brings together a long list of local booksellers, publishers, authors, writing groups, historical societies and hundreds of book lovers for one day only.

Organiser Chris Tsilemanis, of Booklark second-hand books, expects there will be plenty of mingling, bargain hunting and activity at the Fair, which will feature popular, rare and vintage books of all genres – both fiction and non-fiction – as well as specialist areas including Australiana, natural history, military and local history, biographies, and children’s literature.

Local author Sarah Tinney will be launching her second children’s book, Jack’s Train Day: An Australian Railway Adventure, and a collection of flash fiction, Everyday Magic. Several other authors’ books released this year will also be available.

Ms Tinney, a Tablelands-based pharmacist and children’s author of nine years, said the book celebrates iconic railways through the eyes of a curious child, inspired by Sarah’s real-life journeys with her son, Jack.

“Some of my best memories are of train trips with my dad,” she says. “Now I’m passing that joy on to Jack - taking him on as many train rides as I can.”

The book includes beloved routes such as Puffing Billy, Kuranda Scenic Railway, and the Atherton-Herberton Historic Railway, plus railway facts and a companion colouring and activity book.

The Book Fair is family-friendly and entry is free.

Along with a smorgasbord of books, this event features live music by Ravenshoe singer/songwriter Dana Martin and catering by Atherton Guide Group.
