Worthy people sought for awards
PEOPLE who have contributed to the local community can now be nominated for the 2026 Mareeba Australia Day Awards.

The awards honour the outstanding achievements of individuals, groups and events that make the shire a better place to live.
Award Categories include Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Sportsperson of the Year, Junior Sportsperson of the Year, Community Service Award (Open Age – Individual or Group), Environmental Achievement Award (Open Age – Individual or Group), Arts and Cultural Award (Individual or Group), Junior Arts and Cultural Award (Individual or Group), Community Organisation of the Year, and Community Event of the Year.
Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony to be held on Monday, 26 January 2026.
Nominations close on Sunday, 30 November.
To nominate, submit a 300–500 word statement of achievement online, by email, post, or in person.
Forms are available online or at the shire’s customer service centres and libraries.
