Young BMXers compete on world stage
THREE young BMXers recently took on the best of the best at the UCI BMX Racing World Championships in Brisbane.
Atherton BMXs Amelia Dayes, Chloe Eakin, and Joel Nobelius competed at the World Championship event, and while they were unsuccessful in securing a World Plate, their results have placed them among the top young riders in the country.
Dayes finished the competition sitting at 31st in the world for the 10 Girls age group, while Eakin placed 51st in the 12 Girls and Nobelius 56th in the 16 Boys.
An astonishing 2,129 Challenge and Masters riders, including the Atherton crew, across 41 nations competed, with Australia fielding the largest representation at 969 riders on the start list.
The United States, Colombia, France, Argentina, Canada, New Zealand, and Great Britain all had significant representation, and competitors ranged in age from eight to 70.
“We are incredibly proud of Amelia, Chloe, and Joel for representing the Atherton BMX Club on the world stage,” club president Kirsty Busch said.
“Having riders compete at a World Championship event shows our younger members what is possible, especially being from a small regional club. We could not be prouder of our riders and the way they represented us and our community.”
