Yungaburra Lions get an upgrade

THE Yungaburra Lions Club will be able to mow its six acres of land much quicker with the help of a brand-new mower.

The club was recently successful with obtaining a $16,500 grant from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF) to purchase a brand-new zero-turn mower, with the club having to contribute an additional $2,000.

This was also just the second time the club had been successful in obtaining a grant from the GCBF, with the first being around 12 years ago.

Club treasurer of 27 years Vince Whalley said the new piece of machinery had already made a huge difference.

“It used to take me about a day and a half on the slasher but I think this will cut that time down by at least a third. I’ve already taken it for a spin and it cuts much nicer,” he said.

“The club expresses its sincere appreciation for the support and we recognise that well-kept facilities are vital for community use and local events.

“As a volunteer-driven organisation, we continue to invest time and effort into caring for our grounds for the enjoyment of all.”

The mower was purchased from Dean’s Service Centre in Malanda, as club members wanted to shop as locally they could.

The Yungaburra Lions Club is also looking for more members – having only around 10 currently.

Club members meet monthly and remain actively involved in a range of initiatives including their ongoing medical aid project, the annual Yungaburra Heritage Tractor and Machinery Day (August), and supporting local events with their food van and Lions train.
